As well, 3 clubs I believe have snug through before the end of 2003 namely

Maxis - Div W

Hang Seng - Div V

Macau - Div V

This has been the result of the hard work and focus of goals by the respective

District and Club officers.

I strongly believe many of you, as District officers are very focused in ensuring

that the goals in :

- membership building and retention

- new clubs growth

- educational achievements

- officers trained

are very consistently followed through. We have gone through the first cycle

of the term. Pls allow me to share with you our learnings from this first cycle.

1. AG visits

AGs can plan their visits from now on but must be completed preferably before

28 February for you to hand to your DVGs to be mailed to me. Some of you have

sent me all the 4 copies, there is no need, pls retain one for you as AG and

one for the club, you only need to send me 2 copies.

Strive to make your next AG visit a time to zero down on goals for the club and

identify key factors to help the club to succeed in their DCP goals. Renew their

commitment for educational and leadership goals they have set in your first AG

visit.

2. club officers training

DVGs and AGs are the only persons who can submit the COT report forms to TI.

Pls do not send to me as they can compiled and faxed, mailed or emailed to TI.

Pls aim to complete the training by 15 February and sent to TI by 28 February

2004 to ensure the points are recognised for the clubs.

3. Club renewals

Up to this point, TI has indicated we have more than 65 clubs outstanding in

their renewals. What will this mean to you as AGs and DVGs? Clubs not renewed

as of now means they are no longer in good standing and cannot participate in

speech contests nor have their educational achievements processed by TI.

We urge you to help these clubs to send in their process for paperwork and at

least strive to renew the minimum of 6 members so that as District officers,

you can strive for your Distinguished Areas and Divisions.

4. Educational achievements

Work with your clubs to ensure their members are receiivng the support to help

them achieve their personal excellence by fulfilling their speech assignments.

TI will be introducing online submissions within the next 3 months to ensure

that reports can be processed without any undue delay.

5. New club growth

Are you planning a nett growth of at least one club in your Area? Map with your

DVG and our LGMs and club extension chairs to help you achieve these goals! The

journey and experience is worth the effort and it will bring out your leadership

skills in helping to nurture and see a new club grow from strength to strength.

The District is confident you will achieve these goals set for yourself to make

this term a meaningful one.

I congratulate you and together, we shall work as one! Best wishes for the New

Year.

Expand our Horizons- In Speaking, In Leading, In Serving.

Dear Tay Yiang Ping

GO FOR THE HIGH 5

is for clubs to achieve a nett gain of 5 members from their base number of members

reflected as of 1 July 2003.

If the club recruits both new members and reinstated members to have a total

number of an increase of 5 members from their base number, they will receive

an oustanding Toastmasters pin from the District. If they achieve a nett increase

of 10 members and more, they will receive 2 pins.

This campaign is open from January to April 2004 and the nett increase is reflected

when the clubs make their April renewals and reflected in the DCP reports from

April and May.

GO FOR THE HIGH 5 and achieve your nett increase of members to bring new blood

and more participation to your club.

Expand Our Horizons!

Ho Fong Ming

Dear Tay Yiang Ping

Wow, congratulations, you have fulfilled half of your term as an officer for

the Club and District.

Has the time flashed past in the blink of an eye? If yes, I believe you have

experienced the joy of speaking, leading and serving in Expanding Our Horizons.

Every experience is aimed to provide us lessons in life. I am constantly amazed

and energised by the level of commitment of our fellow Toastmasters in extending

a helping hand, creating opportunities for members to excel and carving a niche

for themselves to be better at what they are doing.

As we look towards the New Year, there are several things the District would

like to share with you.

1. We have received confirmation from our Third Vice President, Johnny Uy to

attend our Penang convention over 27-30 May 2004. For those of you who have met

him, you would remember his charm and his ever affable and helpful ways towards

our District. For those who have not met him, you will have an opportunity to

be infected by his enthusiasm and leadership. Save a seat for yourself and your

club members, sign up by logging on to our district website for the link.

2. Members of our clubs enjoy the privilege of doing speeches, participating

in speech contests and achieving educational goals. As a club exco member, have

you ensured that your club has renewed for the members so that they can continue

these goals. Even if your old members may not be attending, please ensure your

Club Treasurer follows up by calling them to renew. If your club has not renewed

an old member for the October dues, you have one chance to renew your old member

for the April dues and contribute towards your DCP point for your reinstated

member!

Here's another reason why!

The District recognises your efforts in membership retention and extension. We

will be announcing the award for clubs achieving nett growth of 5 members and

10 members respectively. Watch out for our GO FOR THE HIGH 5 . As long as you

achieve a nett growth of 5 members, the District will award your club so go for

it!

As you count your blessings for the numerous encounters of being inspired, motivated,

cheered and uplifted by a Toastmasters, carry this spark over and do the same

for another person.

Make your dream a possibility and my best wishes for the coming New Year 2004!

Ho Fong Ming

On a second note, TI has recently updated their records in DCP achievements for
Clubs, Areas and Division as of end September. It is important that you check
the updates made in this DPR report and to inform me on any errors, ommissions
made. This will help us in informing TI of the errors as quickly as possible.
They have indicated that the backlog is expected to be completed by end of the
month.

Thank you for your commitment and high spirit, there is much we can strive for
in EXPANDING OUR HORIZONS and the District spurs you on to discover the joy of
speaking, leading and service.

The 72nd Toastmasters International Convention went past in a flurry with
a number of exciting developments. There were 18 attendees from District

the triumph and achievements of our District

International Director, Overseas District for 2003-2005 is Maimunah

leadership of Maimunah Natasha in serving the 13 Districts which
constitute the overseas districts.

Thank you to Donald for putting up a great speech.

For those who were there, meeting officers and delegates from all over the
world and assisting in the campaign for Maimunah Natasha was an
experience worth a lifetime.

years.

We believe with this same spirit, we will bring to life our dreams of
holding the flag high for District 51.

28-07-2003

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

Our top District team sends you greetings from Atlanta, home of the 72nd
convention.

Yesterday and today, we attended trainings geared for all top officers
from the OverseasDistricts, which is 12 Districts in total, with the
latest addition from the Gulf Nations, District 79.

While all the officers were gathered to be trained by our International
President, Gavin Blakely and our International Directors; Christine
Temblique and Robert Coburn and TI Staff, Daniel Rex and STan Stills; it
was a very good gathering of all the top officers in exchanging news and
being finetuned for great effectiveness and performance.

Ted Carcoran, our incoming International President mentioned at the
training that all of us must have a dream to bring to reality in being
proud of holding the flag high to have the opportunity to lead the
District.

District 51 IPDG John Lau also shared with the top officers on how
District 51 survived the SARS with the indomitable spirit of the members,
club and District officers. SARS or no SARS, members continue to meet,
speak and lead.

Tomorrow brings the activity of the Inter District contest where our
District champion, Donald Yee will be participating. We wish him all the
best and do the best.

We are also preparing for our International Director candidate, Maimunah
Natasha and our campaign team, headed by Poh Kim Siong will be mobilising
all of us to assist and provide moral support in her quest to serve the
Toastmasters world better.

We bring this message to you that the greatest success of our District is
all centered in club extension, membership development and CTMs and
ATMs.

We congratulate you in your club activities to bring out the best in each
member and all the speech contests currently underway at Area levels.

Till we meet again, we sign off with salutations and best wishes from
Atlanta.

EXPAND OUR HORIZONS.

28-07-2003

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

While we said our goodbyes at the 10th Annual Convention in Kuching, we were
filled with the knowledge that the members in the District had done their best
to make a great finishing for the term.

A few days ago, IPDG John Lau shared the happy news that District 51 is once
again the pacesetter and leading the way in being #1.

As this new term kicks off, clubs are already happily participating in Club Officer
Trainings conducted by the Area Councils and Division Councils.
Our theme in EXPAND OUR HORIZONS - In Speaking, In Leading, In Serving underscores
our commitment to continously provide the enjoyable and conducive learning environment
for every member to move forward in doing their speeches. We have seen a sponstaneous
development of new leaders emerging at club, Area and Division levels, which
attests to the fact that many are understanding the challenge and excitement
of leading others to do and perform their best. Encompassing this, I see and
experience a spirit of giving and serving others.

I take this opportunity to salute all our past leaders who have sowed the seeds,
inculcate the sense of achievement and together we are reaping the harvest in
having hundreds of members turning out to be better communicators and leaders.

It is with this cornerstone that the District will build our thrust to bring
more people to existing clubs, extend new clubs, spur on to achieve their educational
goals and provide training in all spheres of leadership.

Every member can aspire to be a CTM, ATM and DTM

Every Area can aspire to build a new Club

Every member be retained for them to benefit onwards from this well proven program.

As the new team settles in at club level, Area level, Division level and District
level, let us encourage each other and enjoy the experience.

Look out for our new District Directory which will be produced in a CD for all
clubs.

Watch out for our first issue of the newsletter HORIZON 51 to be broadcasted
to you.

Work out your Club, Area and Division plans and let's move forward with our boundless
sense of vigor, ever present in District 51!
