The idea of having pre-Convention Workshops was greatly supported by all in the MAD Team. The objectives are two-fold : one for the entire MAD Team to come together to organise an event of such magnitude and the other to generate publicity for the upcoming MAD Convention in May 2008. From concept to fruition, it took the MAD Educational & Training and Marketing Teams, James Tan ATMS Organising Chair, Yeo Chai Tun DTM, John Tan ATMB, Chan Boon Hwee DTM and Sam Chee Yee ATMB CL, three months to put all the pieces together into the act. It was a full-house turnout despite a very long session from 1.30pm to almost 10pm on 12 Jan 2008 at Queenstown CC auditorium.

The afternoon workshop was on “The Power of the Subconscious Mind”, and the evening on “Memory Techniques”. The Speaker kept the audience engaged throughout the workshop sessions: there were well-timed and well-planned uses of visual aids such as  power-point slides, flip-charts and overhead projection, attention-grabbing demonstrations that involved members of the audience.

I had the privilege to be the subject of one of the demonstrations in the Power of the Subconscious Mind workshop. If I were not the subject, I would probably be skeptical about the outcome of the demonstration -  a conscious person facing upwards and resting horizontally without any support other than one at the calves and the other at the shoulder blades, with another 54-kg person standing on me at the thigh and stomach. Dr Arul was trying to demonstrate that with his guidance, a willing party can condition his subconscious mind positively so that this in turn will transform goals into achievements. At a later instance, he also demonstrated that this process could be self-induced and self-paced; he repeated the act and this time he himself was the subject.
My "live" Demostration!

There was something to take home for everyone. Yes, most of attendees attended both workshops and therefore, almost everyone went home with Dr Arul’s book on The Power of the Subconscious Mind. In the segment on Memory Techniques, the Speaker conducted several step-by-step exercises and many in the audience could master most of the techniques while they were in the auditorium!

The Pre-Convention Workshop was a resounding success. During the break, there were requests to bring Dr Arul back for more workshops in the future. This is DEFINITELY not the result of the sole effort of the Education & Training and Marketing Teams but the collective effort put in by the entire MAD Team!
